In the interest of somewhat full disclosure, (I say somewhat, since I’m not going to tell you my age, weight and credit card number) here’s a little background. I have over 20 years of career experience in marketing and communications including, but not limited to: print and broadcast advertising, social media marketing, direct mail and email campaigns, event marketing, and public relations activities.

In short, I was paid to influence targeted audiences about the merits of various products and services. To my credit, I never promoted a product or service that I didn’t believe in. So, rest assured that I have no intention of promoting products and services on this blog that I don’t believe in either. I didn’t do it when I was being paid the BIG BUCK$ and I’m certainly not going to do it for the pennies generated from ad links or for free trial samples.

Let’s be clear. My primary motivations for creating Consolidated Coolness is to share information about cool stuff and to have an outlet for writing. That said, I have bills to pay like everyone else and see no reason why I shouldn’t be compensated for my time and effort. So, I intend to monetize the site with appropriate advertising links and reduce my out of pocket expenses of reviewing items by accepting complimentary samples or services when possible. If or when those fortunate events happen, I will state it plainly in the post.

I’m confident that you could have figured that out for yourself, but the Federal Trade Commission doesn’t give you as much credit as I do and insists that bloggers must disclose this information.

For those who are more visually inclined, let me put it this way – the plan is:

While I’m in disclosure mode, there are a few other things I’d like to get off my chest. I just don’t feel like I can keep this information from you:

– Sometimes I write while still in my pajamas.

– Sometimes I don’t wear pajamas.

– Sometimes I am kicked back with my feet up drinking coffee or iced tea while writing.

– Sometimes I cheat on my diet.

– I don’t workout as often as I should.

Wow. That felt really good. I feel so close to you right now. This deserves a song, don’tcha think? It will be our song. Come on. Dance with me.

If you are interested in the gritty details and have nothing better to do with your time, like actually read my blog about really cool stuff and click links to support my writing, then read on for the specifics that probably go above and beyond what is required by the FTC.
